Mr. Cardinal...

Today we have Mr. Cardinal, he looks a little different than other male cardinals we have around our house. He is more of an orangish red than red and not as attractive as other males. He is very helpful with the three little ones. When we are out back he helps mother chirp trying to keep the nest safe. I have also watched him and and help feed the little ones.

With any luck I will have photos of the three young birds for tomorrows post, if not I have no idea what to do.

Brad,
This guy doesn't have the little tuft on his head. Is it laid back because he's angry or doesn't he have one? That is not an attractive bird.

Good posts on the cardinals. The male may be molting-I'm not sure. It's either that or some kind of illness.

I have seen one without any feathers on the head-just down, but I wasn't able to photograph it!

Maybe he makes her laugh. Beauty is on the inside.

Maybe he is an older bird and loosing what he has on top, like some of us.

I have never seen his up, they don't like when I go out back and mother usually keeps hers back while she is giving me heck for being there.
