While in Ocean City we decided to take the short trip over to Assateague Island in search of Sika Deer, Pony's and birds. We were partly successful, but the high temperatures and bright sun kept things away. We were lucky enough to see this eight day old pony with its mother. We did see some other horses and a few Sika's along with a nest of new born Barn Swallows and despite the heat we all had fun.
I hope the narratives and photos went together and made sense of the last month. I have been on vacation during that time and little of it has been spent at home. I wanted the blog to continue to run as if I were at home so it becomes difficult when posting a months worth of post in just a couple of days. The big vacation this year after the beach was in the west at Vegas, the Grand Canyon and all the other parks around it. With any luck I got a few usable photos while away. Days off are winding down now with another boy scout camp to attend before heading back to work. I will soon start posting live again.

Good shots of the Ponies. It was hard to get photographs around here during those hot days too. very early morning and late evenings were decent, but it was like a desert most of the day. The bucks were taken on July 27th of this year on a morning trip. I was running a little late and saw several nice ones at dawn before I got to Pinnacles picnic ground. It was good light when I got to the meadow and there were a lot of deer out. I stopped at the Big Meadows sign, looked the meadow over, and saw the rack on that largest buck(he was completely across the meadow and in the upper end) and that was it--I got the equipment and headed for him. When I came around the corner of the trees at the upper end of the meadow at the end of my stalk-there was the smaller one too with him. I think the other is one of the largest, if not the largest I have photographed in summer. I intended to go back soon, but have not made it again yet.
You got to love the horses and ponies of Assateague. I always had fun down there. You will have to see Sara's pictures of the island, some great sunsets.
