I Thought It Would Never Happen...

It seems like I had been trying forever to get good photographs of a Hawk, I didn't even care what kind of Hawk, just a Hawk. It finally happened on Saturday, I was in the right place at the right time and had the right lens on this time. All the RIGHTS finally added up. Maybe someone can help me with this one but I think it is a Cooper's Hawk, I am not sure. He was already eating the rabbit when I found him and was still eating when I left. I wanted to wait him out and catch him in flight but he had more patience than me this particular day. I was so excited and got enough good keepers you can expect to see a few more from this event, this is probably not the best of the photos I captured of him but I wanted to get one up quickly to share it. Note the small portion of rabbit meat hanging from his beak.

Often I have a hard time in post processing, I can never decide what looks right in the colors, one looks to warm one looks to cool. What do you think are the colors to warm in this photo?

Wow, he/she is beautiful! You are so lucky to have captured this shot!
My husband's Cuddeback has some neat shots of two hawks coming in over some bait he left out for coyotes. Course no where near as clear as your pictures. They are striking birds!

Hello, I came to your blog from another blogger's blogroll and really enjoy the photos and stories you have to offer.

I believe that's a Cooper's Hawk as well. Here a good site for identifying them: http://www.birds.cornell.edu/pfw/AboutBirdsandFeeding/accipiterIDtable.htm

Cheers!

I'm not sure about the ID of the hawk....but I am sure that it is a GREAT picture! The colors look perfect...I don't think they are too warm at all.

Congratulations Bradly! Agreat capture and like Goldilocks porridge, not too hot and not too cold, but just right.

Brad,
I know what you mean about the colors. I often face the same dilemma and usually go with a warmer look over a cooler one. I like the photograph as you posted it and do not think it is too warm.

Congratulations on such an exceptional encounter and photograph.

Fantastic capture! I would love to get such great shots of a hawk, either flying or eating, or just sitting on a post. One of these days....

The photos look great--not too warm, not too cool--just right. Cooper's Hawk is a good guess--he likes rabbits for sure along with chickens.

Excellent. Lucky you.
It is difficult to say something about the colors since we all have different monitors/screens. On my Mac I feel that there is a bit too much yellow in the photo. On my laptop pc it is not so yellow......

Most important is that you are satisfied with it. I would be, cathing that hawk. :-)
